拡張ボイドの家 Expantion-void House

＜拡張ボイド＞

京都の中京区、南道路に面した間口5m奥行き16mの敷地で、二条城の北東部に位置し、景観条例によって軒の出・色彩・屋根形状や勾配についての形態規制が加わる場所である。

クライアントからは中庭や土間・テラスの他、盛り沢山な要望とともに古い町家がもつ空間性を現代的につくり出すことや、自然を感じられることが望まれた。「手間と奥」「ボイド（吹抜け）」「奥行き感」「内外の変化・反転」といった伝統的な町屋にも見られる空間概念を念頭に、生活の要望を満たすためのプランを求めて打ち合わせを重ねた。

結果、生活の主要拠点を２階とし、手前を２階建て・奥を３階建てのプライベートな空間、そして中央に「ボイド（吹抜け）」を設けた案に落ち着いた。「ボイド」は、中庭・テラス・バルコニーといった外部空間に加え、螺旋階段をガラス張りとし、廊下をエキスパンドメタルとすることで動線空間にも透光性を与えて「ボイド化」し、それらを集約した大きな「拡張ボイド」としている。

「拡張ボイド」は上層へ行くほどに広がる形状であるため、１階の奥まで光と風を呼び込み、また「ボイド」を介して各部屋相互に立体的な繋がりが生まれ、どこにいても家族の気配を感じることができる。土間・玄関を抜け、細い廊下を奥へと進み階段を上ると急に視界が開け「拡張ボイド」の中心部にあたる２階テラスにたどり着く。テラス空間は内部のような外部のような雰囲気が生まれ、ここではハンモックを吊るしたり、昼食を食べたり、リビングルームの延長として使ったり、壁面にプロジェクターを投影して屋外シアターとして使ったりといった生活イメージが打ち合わせプロセスの中から浮かび上がってきた。

普遍的な空間概念が現代生活の具体性との関係の中でその豊かさをつくり出してくれる手応えを感じた仕事でもあった。

< Extended Void >

It is located in the northeastern part of Nijo Castle, on a site with a frontage of 5 m and a depth of 16 m facing the south road in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, and is a place where the appearance of the eaves, color, roof shape, and slope are added by the Landscape Ordinance.

In addition to courtyards, earthen floors, and terraces, the client requested that the spatiality of the old townhouse be created in a modern way and that the nature could be felt. Keeping in mind the spatial concepts found in traditional townhouses, such as “time and effort,” “void (atrium),” “sense of depth,” and “change and inversion inside and outside,” we held a series of meetings in search of a plan to meet the needs of daily life.

As a result, we settled on a plan with the main base of life on the second floor, a private space with two floors in the front and three floors in the back, and a “void” in the center. In addition to external spaces such as courtyards, terraces, and balconies, the spiral staircase is made of glass, and the corridor is made of expanded metal to give translucency to the flow line space, making it a large “extended void” that aggregates them.

The “Extended Void” has a shape that expands as you go to the upper floors, so light and wind are brought in to the back of the first floor, and through the “voids” each room creates a three-dimensional connection with each other, so you can feel the presence of your family wherever you are. After passing through the dirt floor and entrance, go down the narrow corridor and climb the stairs, the view suddenly opens up and you reach the terrace on the second floor, which is the center of the “Extended Void”. The terrace space creates an atmosphere like an exterior like an interior, and the image of life emerged from the meeting process, such as hanging a hammock, eating lunch, using it as an extension of the living room, and using it as an outdoor theater by projecting a projector on the wall.

It was also a work in which I felt that the universal concept of space creates its richness in relation to the concreteness of modern life.
