段床三角ボイドの家 Skipfloor-Triangle-Void House

＜自然と余白と＞

河川がカーブして出来たスロープ状の自然の地形と、直交グリッド（格子）によって分割されたフラットな人工性の強い街区との接続地点に敷地は位置する。 大きなクスの木のある小さな空き地のような公園に連なる、長らく余白として存在していた変形地。 その敷地を見つけたご夫婦とこれから生まれ育つ子供たちの家。

１）変形地に合わせて45°に交差するグリッドに沿った平面計画とし、２） 木に向けて三角に凹んだ庭と三角の吹抜けを設け、 ３）隣地のレベル差を反映し半階づつ上る断面計画を採用している。 これら3つの自然地形への応答は、１）敷地面積を有効に活用すること、 ２）木と公園に対して隔たりと繋がりを適度につくりながら南面採光を導くこと、 ３）しばらくはキッズスペースとして使う子供室を1階から目の届く1.5階に設けつつ、下階の畳みスペースを隣接道路からの見下ろしをかわせる窓と天井高さにできること、 の3つの生活に対する実用目的に対応している。

結果的に大きさや形の異なるさまざまなスペースが集まったワンルームのような家となった。 外の公園と木が入り込んだような大きな吹抜けや、家具や収納のような親しみやすい小さな部屋があることで、 通常の「外部/建築/部屋/家具」といった、意味と大きさによって分割された空間的な枠組みを中和するような連鎖性が生じ、 また、斜めの方向性が身体感覚に多動的に作用し、自由な解放性が感じられる空間となったのではないかと思う。

完成した建物を眺めていた時、ふと「となりのトトロ」の、木が段階的に拡大し成長していくような ワンシーンを思い出した。 20数年振りに映画を観直すと、サツキとメイとトトロが妙な儀式＝身体的空間的な形式によって、 木の実を大木へと一挙に成長させる、 子供と自然の生命力とが呼応し合うような夢のシーン。 トトロが小・中・大と段階的なスケールの連鎖性として浮遊し、トトロの住処はクスの大木だった。 そういえば設計中、クライアントとは主にLINEのメールでやりとりしていたのだが、 その時のクライアントのLINEアイコンが「トトロ」のメイの画像だった。 なにがどう関連し計画に作用したのだろうか？！

＜Nature and blank space＞

The site is located at the junction between the slope-like natural topography created by the curve of a river and the flat, highly artificial city block divided by orthogonal grids. A deformed area that has existed as a blank space for a long time, connected to a park that looks like a small vacant lot with a large camphor tree. A home for the couple who found the site and their future children.

1) Plan the floor plan along a grid that intersects at 45 degrees to accommodate the deformed land, 2) Create a triangular garden and a triangular atrium facing the tree, and 3) Create half-stories at a time to reflect the difference in level of the neighboring land. An ascending cross-sectional plan is adopted. The responses to these three natural topography are: 1) Make effective use of the site area, 2) Channel sunlight from the south while creating appropriate separation and connection between the trees and the park, and 3) Use the space as a children’s space for a while. It meets three practical purposes for daily life: the children’s room is located on the 1.5th floor, which can be seen from the 1st floor, and the folding space on the lower floor can be built with windows and ceiling heights that allow the view from the adjacent road.

The result was a one-room-like house with a variety of spaces of different sizes and shapes. By having a large atrium that looks like an outside park and trees, and small friendly rooms for furniture and storage, the space is divided according to meaning and size, such as the usual “exterior/architecture/room/furniture”. I believe that a chain reaction occurred that neutralized the spatial framework, and that the diagonal direction had a hyperactive effect on physical sensations, creating a space that felt free and liberating.

When I was looking at the completed building, I suddenly remembered a scene from ”My Neighbor Totoro” in which a tree gradually expands and grows. When I rewatched the movie for the first time in over 20 years, I realized that Satsuki, Mei, and Totoro use a strange physical and spatial form to make the fruit of a tree grow into a large tree all at once, as if the child and the life force of nature were interacting with each other. A dream scene. Totoro floats in a chain of small, medium, and large scales, and Totoro’s home is a large camphor tree. By the way, during the design process, I mainly communicated with the client via LINE email, and the client’s LINE icon at that time was an image of Mei from Totoro. What was involved and how did it affect the plan?!
